Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball – Laura Ellen Anderson

Hello, bookish friends,

I picked this book up on a recommendation from one of my colleagues who is in love with this series. A new book of Amelia Fang came into my bookstore recently ready for the festive season and it looked so good. I then realised that I would have to read the first one to then carry on with the rest.

I am so glad I picked this up as it was such a sweet read! I loved the characters and all of the spooky references. Even what the characters in this world eat and drink are gruesome and hilarious. It is a great short read and it is very easy to follow. I read it in only a few hours and I certainly want to pick up the next in the series.

The character names and descriptions are great, pulling on the traditional ghosts, should and monsters that are meant to come out around Halloween. While also mixing in unicorns, kittens and glitter it is a well-rounded book with fantastic illustration. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars as it wasn’t the best book I have read this year but it certainly is up there in the highly rated. I also want Squashy to be my pet pumpkin and Grimaldi to be my best friend.

I would certainly reccomend for the age range of 6 to 9-year-olds, however, if you are like me and enjoy a good children’s book then this is brilliant!

as always, happy reading

korie xx
