Hello, Bookish friends,
The last chance hotel was good but I didn’t love it. I explained it to my colleagues as a magical cluedo for kids. It is the Waterstones children’s book of the month and I felt like this was the perfect season to pick it up. The concept was great and it certainly has that murder mystery feel to it with the ‘dessert in the dining room’ who is the killer. however, the end goes off on a little bit of a tangent with lots of things all happening without it really being explained. It is basically a lead into another book in the series. If it is only going to be a stand-alone I would be very surprised. I do not think the Author has any publishing plans for a second novel just yet but I can certainly see it being on the horizon.
I still enjoyed this book and the magic inside it. I love a good murder mystery so this was great for me and also great for a Halloween read. I can also see why Waterstones chose it as their childrens book of the month as it would go down very well with children.
The writing style was quick and easy to follow in this text, and the physical text itself had larger text so that made it even quicker to read. I read this book in Two days on my lunch breaks and on the bus to and from work. It was fast-paced and enjoyable as a kids book. The cover also intrigued me as this book is not a new one. It has been around since 2016 however now it is the season for spooky books it has come out in full force again.
I gave this book 3 stars but It is more like a 3.75 overall. It is no means a bad book as I found it enjoyable. I would suggest anyone to pick it up if they are interested! Although I think Nevermoor may have tainted my reading at the moment as that book was very good.
As always, happy reading
